Description:
"Experiments With Alternating Currents of Very High Frequency, and Their Application to Methods of Artificial Illumination… The Transmission of Electric Energy Without Wires."   May 20th, 1891

Come join us for the presentation on a man whose scientific research was  instrumental in most of the facets of our modern day life.  He was a showman who was at one time though to have drowned, was a college drop-out, had a possible photographic memory, was described as, “a scientist or engineer who was also a poet, a philosopher, an appreciator of fine music, a linguist, and a connoisseur of food and drink”, developed fully formed ideas and solutions before committing them to paper, one of first to investigate x-rays, a patent holder at age 36, developing the modern alternating current (AC) electrical supply system, was on the cover of Time magazine, friends with Mark Twain, his patents and theoretical work also formed the basis of wireless communication and the radio, had a SI unit of measure named after him, had over 2000 people at his funeral including Nobel prize winners and the First Lady of the United States.

Know who we mean?

If the name Tesla did not jump immediately to the front of your mind then shame on you.  Come experience an energizing presentation from Fred Overkircher of the influential Life and Legacy of Inventor/Founder Nikola Tesla and The War of the Currents.  How Tesla's inventions from the AC Motor to the Tesla Coil and the Radio improved the evolution of lighting and electricity as we know it today.

Tesla was a Serbian-American inventor, mechanical engineer, electrical engineer, and futurist. Because of his 1894 demonstration of short range wireless communication through radio and as the eventual victor in the "War of Currents", he was widely respected as one of the greatest electrical engineers who worked in America.  He pioneered modern electrical engineering and many of his discoveries were of groundbreaking importance. In the United States during this time, Tesla's fame rivaled that of any other inventor or scientist in history or popular culture.

Nikola Tesla was one of the greatest electrical inventors who ever lived... He was a visionary thinker, and in his papers and interviews he anticipated the development of radio and television broadcasting, robotics, computers, faxes, and even the Strategic Defense Initiative. His technological achievements transformed America from a nation of isolated communities to a country connected by power grids where information was available upon demand… Tesla's great dream was to find the means to broadcast electrical power without wires in between. But like many geniuses, he was not a practical man. He gave his life to realize his visions, while others made millions with his inventions.” – PBS.org
